Welcome to our First Newsletter!
Connecting people who work in or support the biosciences industry in Vermont is the most important activity of the Vermont Biosciences Alliance. We plan to use this newsletter to highlight our member companies and sponsors, and to share biosciences industry news on issues that concern our members. Although several people have participated in the design and writing of the newsletter, two in particular, board member Chris Coulter and freelance scientific editor Lori Martin are the ones principally involved in making this happen. Thanks to you both for your efforts! Please feel free to send us articles or ideas for consideration as newsletter items and, as always, submit news and events for posting to the VBSA website. We would also appreciate your feedback on how to maximize the value of the VBSA in support of your efforts.
This month we highlight the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), one of our major sponsors. PhRMA represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, their mission is to effectively advocate for public policies that encourage the discovery of new medicines. Please spend a few minutes reviewing their recent Industry Profile 2011 report highlighting the important efforts of the pharmaceutical industry to improve lives and create good jobs in the U.S. There is much to learn that can be applied to the biosciences industry sector here in Vermont.
Finally, we would like to thank the following members of the VBSA Board for their efforts on behalf of the blossoming Vermont biosciences industry. These are the people who regularly meet and discuss how the organization can support the industry and provide value to member companies. As a volunteer organization, Board members are motivated by the VBSA mission: fostering the growth of Vermont bioscience companies by connecting research scientists, entrepreneurs, and the business community. We think you will agree that the quality of the Board members speaks to the success to date of the VBSA.

And finally a quick “heads up.” June is “VBSA Membership Month.” Please renew your membership or take this opportunity to join us by becoming a member. This is your chance to help yourself, your organization, and the Vermont biosciences community by becoming part of an alliance of like-minded people.
Looking forward to seeing or meeting you at our next event.
